Don’t Brick The Reuleuax: RX200 Update Fix

It seems that many people have jumped at the chance yesterday to update the Reuleaux RX200 to version 3.1.  Unfortunately, it appears that rather than vaping at 250 watts, they were left holding bricks.

250 watts of awesome rx 200 from reuleauxFear not as we have the solution!  We are going to tell you the correct way to install the firmware, without risk of breaking your device.  Don’t worry, even if you are currently holding a glorified door stop, we can help you get it up and running again.

Unlike many vapers, these devices are designed to protect themselves from harm — you would never see a Reuleaux walking down the street with batteries and change in its pocket, and in the same breath it would never allow you to perform an operation that can damage its internal components.

We aren’t going to debate on whether this is truly 250 watts of vaping power, but I did put a volt meter across the poles, and when I cranked it all the way up, the voltage reading on the screen is accurate.  I ran a 0.28Ω coil at 8.36 volts — that makes it 250 watts according to Ohm’s Law.  It took 3 seconds to set my cotton on fire, but that is beside the point.

If You Currently Have A Brick

For the people who have bricked their device, we’ll start with the simplest part.  As it happens, some RX’s have been known to develop parental hate if you try to update them while they still have batteries in the sled, which means that this was probably the problem that caused your device to cease working.

The information I was given was as follows:

  • Remove the batteries and put them to one side.
  • Insert USB cable into your PC.
  • hold down the Up (right) button on the RX 200
  • Insert USB into RX while still holding the button.
  • Open the updater and finish what you started.
  • Go back to vaping, or setting your cotton ablaze with your new-found power.

For The Rest Of Us

It is still better to be safe than sorry.  Take the batteries out so you don’t have to find out if you are one of the unlucky few who has a device that is really protective of its circuitry.

If you haven’t already done so, head over to Wismec.com and grab the latest firmware upgrade, Version 3.1 is live and ready to make life a little more fun.

download page

Unzip the download file and head inside, you want to click on the Update Wismec.exe file.

wismec dl file
Plug your USB cable into your computer and then into your RX 200.
You should hear your computer tell you that it see’s the device and the updater should show the devices current status.update software
Hit the update button, and on the next screen hit the icon marked Reuleaux_RX200_V3.10.

3.1 update
It will tell you when it has completed its progress, and you are then free to unplug your device and follow in the footsteps of our friends in the first group.

I personally will never need to have 250 watts of vaping power on my device, and in all honesty after putting the update on here today, I will probably never use it again — although it is fun to be able to crank it that high, if you want to.  I enjoy long slow hits on my mod, not having to be careful in case I accidentally set the inside of my face on fire, but should I ever need the power to start a campfire in the woods, I know my device has me covered.

As always, enjoy your vaporizer and vape safe!

  • Bravo! As always guide to vaping lives up to it name, literally. Having read this you have spared me the panic of possibly having not one but two bricks! I already have plenty of actual door stops in my home so thanks again for your great site that helps us all in so many ways.

    • Sean, I just broke my RX again just to help to try and figure this out for you. The only way I can get the update to fail is by having the device turned off when I attempt it. Make sure that the RX screen is up (ei, the device is in power up mode) and then hit the update icon. Try updating to the Version 3.0 first and see if that does anything, before trying to get back to the 3.1. If that doesn’t work, message me and I will Skype through it with you and see if we can figure out where it’s going wrong.

      • Sorry to hear that Daniel, hope you have got the rx fixed. i have tried to do the 3.0 update but it does the exact same thing i believe it may be some thing wrong with my mod, i have emailed wismec to see what they suggest

    • That would mean your computer may not be recognizing your mod. If not already be sure to use the micro USB that came in the box. Only way I could get it to work.

  • my rx200 wont turn on, followed all these steps over and over again but still nothing, wont give me the option to update, only to exit the updater, no response from plugging the device into my computer.. if anybody can help please respond

  • Thanks a lot! Helped me bringing my Presa 75W back to life after the update failed for whatever reason and it was dead. Works exactly the same way.

  • Thanks for this helpful post. Have you heard anything about the Rx200 (3.1) switching out of TC mode back to VW? If I insert the battery I can get one (weak) hit in TC, then it switches back to VW, usually at 20W.

Any help from anyone would be appreciated. Happy vaping!

  • I tried to update and now my mod won’t work.. Smh. I just bought it. And now it won’t work. I left my batteries in when I tried to update cos I didn’t know. So now Idk what to do.

    • If you follow the directions in this post, it should resolve the problem for you. If for some reason it fails, get back in touch and we will see if we can troubleshoot the issue and get you back up and running.

      • Daniel Hall this is a first. I’ve been reading through the comments and I would just like to personally thank you for taking the time to actually respond and assist other vapers with their issues. Most people start a thread and just kinda forget about the people that have unresolved problems. I know that it may just be a small thing but I want you to know that the help you’re willing to provide to complete strangers within this community is very much appreciated. I wish all other vapers were as willing to actively help this community as you are.

        • Tyler, we do what we can to help people keep on vaping, everything from pushing for advocacy to the small things like getting new vapers starter kits running properly. We are part of the vaping community, I spend most of my down time sitting in a vape shop to help customers that the FDA regulations say the shop workers can’t help: we are all a big family and I personally do what I can to keep it running smoothly.

  • My rx200 turned into a brick almost 2 mons. after I did the update. It’s stuck in tc mod and no buttons will work. Tried to use steps above to reinstall firmware but it’s still stuck

  • I tried to update whilst leaving the batteries in.

I now have a brick in my hands, I have tried following the steps but it just wont power on or show any display. can anyone advise? otherwise I will just purchase a new Mod

    • I know this was a while back, but for you or anyone that is still having issues with this (coming from a computer network specialist) don’t use the USB ports in the front of your PC. They are on a HUB and don’t always convey the proper throughput of data for certain applications. I ordered my Reuleaux RX2/3 from a shoddy Chinese website for $35 and it took 3 weeks to get to me, but it came in, and it’s genuine! So I really didn’t want to have to deal with trying to send it back or getting PayPal to refund my money.

      STEPS:

      1. You will want to plug the provided USB cord into the back of your PC (not all USB cords are created equal)
      2. Hold the (right/up) button WHILE plugging the cord into your Reuleaux.
      3. Keep holding the button while you use your other hand to open the WismecUpdate.exe application.
      4. Still holding? Yep. Press (Update) and select the firmware and click OK while at the same time letting off of the button.

Viola. It didn’t work the first, second, or third time for me. I had to switch USB ports a couple of times, close the Wismec app and try again, letting off of the (right/up) button at different times to see if it would work. Keep trying. It eventually worked for me as I let off a sigh of relief.

I’m running Firmware V4.13. Haven’t bothered with a logo or whatnot. Don’t want to push my luck.

  • I never updated it I just reached for it one day and it didn’t turn on even tried charging the batteries and still nothing happened

    • For all those who’s device wouldn’t turn on and showed “unknown device” on the updating software… Try and hold both the fire and left button together. If not the left, try the right and fire. Mine miraculously turned on! Let me know if this works.

  • I got mine to update just fine months ago. More so recently, the wattage down seems to be locked and won’t stop looping the device to 1.0W. It will also stop it from firing and holding the fire button will turn stealth on and off, it will lock if I hold the wattage up button only. Any ideas on how to fix this?

    • I know this was a while back, but it sounds to me as if your left button is stuck, or broken. Have you gotten anything sticky in it? Perhaps juice ran down the mod and got into the button? The buttons on these mods have tactile switches under them, which are soldered onto the main board. These switches (what makes the clicky sound when pressed) aren’t made to last forever. I’ve built my own DNA75 and DNA200 mods and I’ve had to replace the switches on one already. Sounds like it’s likely seen it’s last “click”

Does it still make a “click” sound when pressed?

  • Can you help me with my rx2/3. The screen display is not working, but it is still firing when you press the firing botton. Stealth mode is not the issue. And the mod is heating up with batteries inside even if i am not using it. I didnt update the firmware yet. Do you know the solution for this?

    • Oliver, you have probably put the device into stealth mode. Hold the fire and down button together for a few seconds, it should pop up “Stealth Off”.. if that doesn’t work, hollar back and we can see if there is another issue

  • Mine is a brick..! I was a bee to upgrade to firmware 3.13, but it will not turn on. Nothing. No combo of buttons has worked. Any ideas guys?

  • Thank you so much! Bricked mine & found your site within minutes. You’re a Star!

Momo – take the batteries out & try to flash the carcass. Fixed mine first time.

      • My rx2/3 suffering this common issue. The screen displays nothing but still i can fire it. It shows battery running when attach to the cable charger and also i can turn stealth on off but after that it doesnt show up the main screen. Do you have any idea about this? Tried to upgrade and downgrade already nothing happened.

        • Unfortunately, I think you should go ahead and take it back to where you purchased it from so that they can replace it or buy a new device. Sounds like your RX2/3 has a defect. I know, that sucks man.

  • Thanks for the advice! My RX literally just stopped working so I went searching for answers. This was actually the first page I clicked on and the wattage up button method worked immediately. Thanks for helping me vape again and keep on doing your part for the community!!!

  • Thanks for the info info Daniel hall almost thought I had a brick myself you would think they would tell you to take the batteries our first did exactly what you said worked like a charm thanks again

  • I know this is probably a long shot, but I have a RX200 and I’ve done this exact process at least 10 different times.. The mod is on, but it’s stuck in Tc mode. No matter how many times I press the fire button, I can’t change modes, I can’t change the temp when pressing the up and down buttons.. It just kind of takes control of itself and cycles through all the temps in C and F. I can put it into stealth mode, I can lock and unlock it, but I can’t change the mode, temp, fire it up, or turn it off. So, basically, none of the basic functions work. I’ve searched high and low and can’t find anything. I’ve found very few videos of people with the same issue, but I’ve found no solution.. Any help..?

  • Thank you so much. I bricked my RXMini and was freaking out. Also *confirmed* this works for the RXMini without opening it up and removing the batteries.

  • I have a Wismec 2/3 that I have not even had a week. I already had a few other mods and wanted to upgrade. When I did the upgrade I did everything that was told to do, even took the battery out. Now it won’t even turn on. I tried the steps you suggested and still nothing. What should I do?

    • Try the steps once again that’s on this page for those that have already bricked their RX2/3. If that doesn’t work, you may need to contact the store you’ve purchased the device from or contact Wismec support directly.

  • What is the application does not recognize my mod? I’ve tried to update two different RX200s and both are not recognized. Could it have to do with the fact that I have not updated the vape since I bought it?

  • TL;DR Stop the Raptr service before updating the Logo. Remove the batteries when updating the Firmware. Use the back USB ports and the supplied USB cable if at all possible.

Awesome instructions!!! Worked to restore my bricked Reuleuax 2/3!!!
I updated firmware to 4.13, installed a new Logo, found that after updating the Logo I was then prevented a follow up Logo change. I forget the exact verbiage but it said something to the effect of ‘I can’t read what the parameter’s current value is”. After searching for a while I stumbled on a page that said that the AMD Raptr service was at fault. I killed that running process and was able to update the Logo to a new image. After about 5 or 6 images I noticed that the screen shut off. Now the entire mod wouldn’t respond, wouldn’t turn on, just dam, was I now holding a brick? Nope
A bit of info on what/how I was doing when this happened
Using two different old(over 3 years but never really used) 18650 Sony and LG High Discharge batteries
    Cheap single 18650/18350 battery charger
    Wismec provided USB cable
Front Port USB connection with a USB extender (<-lulz pretty sure I need to run the cable direct from the back USB ports.)
    Downloaded Logos
I had the batteries in and the device powered on when I updated the firmware.
I did not reboot the computer or Mod between updating Firmware and Logo
I had been attempting to charge the batteries using the supplied USB cable and a 2.3 amp wall socket USB port
Before the device "bricked" or I figured out about the Raptr service/Logo update issue, I rebooted my PC (running Win10) and the Mod

After recharging the batteries with the wall charger
Followed steps detailed in "If You Currently Have A Brick" section above
I reapplied the 4.13 update to ensure device and updater were working.
Updated Logo with downloaded one successfully
Updated Logo with one I had created successfully

I am currently using the device without issues running 4.13 firmware, and a custom Logo.

  • ok after I have done this firmware update the proper way as you stated when I power the device up it is stuck at 300 nih when I try to adjust this with the arrows I will press down arrow once and I will cycle through a range of 200 nih very fast the stop at a number like 100nih any ideas note iam brand new to this device got it not to long ago did the update now iam stuck.
