It seems like New York is receiving a lot of media coverage over electronic cigarettes these days, but it’s not all positive for the electronic cigarette industry. Just because these devices are a helping hand in the world of harm reduction, it isn’t safe from your everyday criminal.
An electronic cigarette shop based out of Tonawanda, NY – was just burglarized in late June, after someone threw a large cinder block through a side window. Several items were taken from a display case and a laptop computer and $170 from a cash register was taken.
Then, The owner of the business reported a week and a half ago that someone had tried to break into the business through a rear door but was unsuccessful.
If it seems like this shop has been in a spurt of bad luck or criminals thinking it’s an easy target – then you’re right. Sheriff’s investigators are now investigating another burglary.
Responding to an alarm at the business about 3:45 a.m. Thursday, a sheriff’s sergeant found an open window at the rear of the business and searched the inside of the business but didn’t find anyone. A piece of plywood that led to a bathroom was removed to gain entry.
Once inside, the suspects took about $550 in merchandise from display cases, including several electronic cigarettes that vaporize a liquid solution to simulate smoking.
Items may also have been taken from the a store-room but the owner said an inventory would need to be taken.
Sheriff’s investigators are waiting for video surveillance footage from the business.
