What’s the Ideal Vaping Device for CBD E-Liquid?

You don’t need this article to tell you that CBD has become an insanely popular supplement. People are buying CBD from all sorts of retailers, and they’re using it for a seemingly endless variety of reasons.

People are also using CBD in a wide variety of different ways. It’s all part of the never-ending quest to find the perfect CBD product and the perfect route of administration to accomplish whatever your personal health goals might be.

Lately, one of the most popular ways to consume CBD has been by vaping it. With medical literature showing that inhaled CBD is both faster acting and more bioavailable than CBD taken orally, the fact that so many people are vaping CBD these days should come as no surprise.

So, have you decided to try CBD vaping and find out what it can do for you? If that’s the case, then the best way to begin is by going to a major vape shop like Pure E-Liquids and grabbing a vaping device for CBD e-liquid.

If you already vape, you might be wondering at this point if you can just use the vaping device you already own for CBD vaping. The answer is that you can, but you might not have the best possible vaping experience that way.

We’ll explain why in this walkthrough explaining the ideal CBD vaping setup.

The Ideal Device for CBD Vaping

For most people, the ideal hardware for CBD vaping is a refillable pod-based device. There are a number of reasons why pod systems work well for CBD vaping, and we’ll list a few of them.

  • If you also vape nicotine e-liquid, a pod system is ideal for you because it makes it easy to switch between e-liquid types just by filing two different pods and swapping between them. Generally, you want to keep your CBD and nicotine e-liquids separate because you don’t want to vape them at the same time. If you do, you may find that the stimulant effect of the nicotine tends to counteract the effects of the CBD.
  • Pod systems are the smallest and most portable vaping devices on the market. Using a pod system for CBD vaping makes it easy for you to always have your CBD vape in your pocket and ready to go.
  • Among smaller vaping devices, pod systems use the most up-to-date technology and are extremely reliable.

If you don’t want to use a pod system for some reason, you can also use a low-power vape pen for CBD vaping. To confirm that a vape pen is intended for operation at lower wattages, look at its mouthpiece. It the mouthpiece is narrow like a cigarette filter, that vape pen will probably work well for CBD vaping. If the vape pen has a wide mouthpiece, it’s probably a higher-power device and therefore isn’t the best choice for CBD.

What’s Wrong With Using a Sub-Ohm Mod for CBD Vaping?

At the beginning of the article, we said that if you use a sub-ohm vape pen or mod, your existing vaping device probably won’t give you the ideal experience with CBD. Why is that?

  • Most CBD e-liquids are very thin and contain far more PG than VG. That’s because powdered CBD isolate dissolves in propylene glycol, but it doesn’t dissolve in vegetable glycerin. A CBD e-liquid with too much VG could separate, leading to uneven distribution of CBD in the bottle. Since CBD e-liquid is very thin, it may leak out of a sub-ohm tank.
  • CBD is very expensive, so you don’t want it to leak out of your tank. You also don’t want to overconsume it, because there’s little benefit in doing so. Once you find the dosage of CBD that works well for you, you’ll probably discover that you derive no additional benefit from using more CBD than that. There is definitely a point of diminishing returns with CBD, and a low-power vaping device makes it much easier to control your dosage.

What Should I Look for in a CBD E-Liquid?

The ideal CBD e-liquid contains nothing except propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, CBD isolate, and, optionally, flavors. A few CBD e-liquids also contain added terpenes to mimic the terpene profiles of popular cannabis strains. You may find that added terpenes enhance the flavor of a CBD e-liquid.

Before you buy CBD e-liquid, you should be aware that industry watchdogs have purchased CBD products and tested their CBD content, finding that some products contain significantly less CBD than they claim. Very few CBD brands are responsible for growing or extracting their own hemp. Therefore, they don’t fully control every part of the production process and don’t truly know how much CBD their products contain unless they send those products out for testing.

A good CBD e-liquid brand will use a third-party laboratory to test its products and will make the test results available to the public. Look for tests that verify a product’s CBD content and confirm that the product contains no residual solvents, heavy metals, or pesticides.

Why Can’t I Just Vape CBD Oil?

In 2019, many users of cannabis-based vaping products learned the hard way that inhaling vaporized oil is very, very risky. The use of illegal THC vaping products adulterated with Vitamin E oil caused many people to contract a severe lung disease, and some of those people even died.

Oral CBD oil generally doesn’t contain Vitamin E, but it does contain other oils such as MCT oil, hempseed oil or olive oil. Those oils are all perfectly safe for oral consumption, but they aren’t intended for inhaling. You should never put CBD oil in a vape pen.

In addition to the safety factor – which is very serious – it’s also unwise to vape CBD oil because you simply won’t have a very good experience. The cotton wicks in vape pens do an excellent job of absorbing VG and PG, but they don’t work well with oils. If you put CBD oil in a vape pen, you’ll most likely experience harsh dry hits and will have a very unpleasant experience.
