Just when e-cig commercials are starting to boom on televisions nationwide, there are reports of a e-cig TV ad ban that will possibly be coming soon.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is expected to announce the federal regulation of electronic cigarettes sometime in October, and before the announcement, the FDA’s continually holding ‘listening sessions’ as well as a lot of talk about the niche industry. They’re discussions have many speculating on what could become of the industry.

According to financial services group CLSA Americas, the FDA will likely propose a ban on TV advertising for e-cigarettes, said AdAge.com.

Cigarette advertising on television was banned by the federal government in 1971.

A ban would curb an emerging source of revenue for TV networks, where spending on e-cigarette commercials climbed 17.9% to 2012 from 2011, according to Ad Age, citing a Citibank report earlier this year.
