Kanger Subox Mini Starter Kit Review

West Coast Vape Supply

The Kanger Subox Mini Starter Kit became an overnight success, bringing back what’s known as the “Starter Kit” that was once a term and product directed at the beginner vapers.  However, Kanger designed this starter kit for the more advanced vapers, giving the term starter kit new life and a new performance.

Appearance

The Subox Mini is presented in well thought out packaging.  The design is on par with Kanger’s recent products packaging, such as the SubTank Series and its first box mod, the Kbox.

A black sleeve with the KangerTech logo covers a portion of the Subox Kit’s box.  Under the sleeve, the box has a black “K” that floats into a picture of the Kbox Mini, while the right portion of the box outlines the device and the K letter.  Also, to the right, “SUBOX Mini” is printed at the top, while the bottom says “Black Edition” to indicate the color of the Kbox Mini and SubTank Mini in the packaging.

The right of the box has a lid held down by magnets.  When you open the lid, on the inside of the lid says “SUBOX Mini STARTER KIT”, then lists what the kit contains.  Just under that says “CAUTION”, then lists some notable information.  In the box there is a Subox Mini user manual, a product authenticity card, as well as a “using guide” that gives instructions on how to prime the coil. Next in the package is the Kbox Mini to the left, while the SubTank Mini sits to the right, both resting on black foam padding that has paper material covering it.  Pulling up the foam pad reveals another foam pad at the bottom, which holds a USB cord, a small zipper bag that holds cotton, and another that holds extra screws, the famous blue mini screwdriver and a pre-built RBA coil.  Just below that is a spare 1.5Ω replacement coil and an RBA deck.

Kbox Mini:  The Kbox Mini looks outstanding, and nothing like the original Kanger Kbox.  One huge selling point of the Subox Mini Kit is its appearance, so as you would expect, the Kbox Mini was designed to perfection.

The Kbox Mini only stands 3 1/4″ tall, just 1 1/2″ wide and 7/8″ in diameter.  It is a box style mod, but is rounded on each side.  The top of the device has a 510 connection with a spring-loaded center pin.  To the right on the top of the device has KBOX Mini etched in.  The front of the device says “kangertech”, the right of the device where the rounded edge starts is a magnetic door with the Kanger logo cut out to show off the color of the battery in use.  To the left of the device is a red plastic fire button, then a plastic surround to protect the OLED screen, while two red plastic plus and minus buttons rest below it.  Just under the buttons is a micro-USB port to charge the battery.

SubTank Mini:  The SubTank Mini has been for a little while now, but the one that comes in this Subox Mini kit is the upgraded version and a bit different.  It still has the same structural design, but has a black aqueous ceramic coating.  It comes with red o-rings to go with the theme, but has 2 adjustable airflow slots.  It only stands 2 5/8″ tall and has a diameter of only 7/8″.  Underneath that coating, the body is made of stainless steel, while the middle tube is made of pyrex glass.  The black drip tip sits on the top base, and the top base has “kangertech” etched into it.  The bottom base has 3 etchings spaced out in between the adjustable airflow slots… this makes it where there is minimal blank space between the slots.  Just below that is a grip for the base, which has etchings spaced about an 1/8″ apart from one another.  This not only allows the user to get a good grip to turn the base, but also adds to the appeal of the SubTank Mini.

Quality:  Both products have outstanding quality.  They’ve been manufactured to perfection, and that shows in both its design in appearance and design structurally.  Each edge has been rounded to remove sharp edges and they were machined well.  The threads on the SubTank Mini and the Kbox Mini are smooth and holds no imperfections, and the magnetic door sits flush to the body, while the magnets hold it tightly in place.  From the packaging to the actual products, Kanger definitely spared no expense with the Subox Mini Starter Kit.

Features

Though the Subox Mini is priced rather cheap, it is packed with the features required to give an amazing vaping experience.  I’ve truly turned into a fanboy of this Subox Mini because it offers it all in one single package, for one low price.  You get a device that has the power, a device that supports an 18650 battery, a device that has a magnetic door for easily replacement of that 18650, a device that has an OLED screen, a device that can be charged via USB, and you’re also getting a device that looks great and has a small body.  Can’t go wrong with that!  You’re also getting a sub-ohm clearomizer, one that has ample adjustable airflow, one that can handle the Kbox Mini’s power, one that is versatile–holding both replacement coils and an RBA deck, and not to mention that the SubTank Mini looks great, is small, yet has a large 4.5mL capacity.  Kanger truly reinvented the starter kit!

Kbox Mini:  The Kbox Mini is the whole package, it looks great and comes feature packed.  The device features a zinc alloy casing, hard plastic buttons, an OLED screen, a spring-loaded 510 pin, a micro-USB charging port and also has a magnetic battery door.  In addition, the Kbox Mini can run up to 50 watts and supports a resistance as low as 0.3Ω.

Performance

The Subox Mini as a whole performs outstandingly well.  It’s honestly hard explain how much I enjoy this setup, but hopefully I can get the message across enough through this written review, as well as the video.  Being that the Kbox Mini can run up to 50 watts, there power is certainly there.  The device supporting an 18650 battery is great, since I prefer a device with a battery you can replace.  The battery door on the Kbox Mini makes it super convenient and easy to quickly change out the battery, and since the device doesn’t actually turn off, you can replace the battery and get right back to vaping without skipping a beat.  The SubTank Mini with the upgraded airflow and upgraded OCC coil is amazing… one of the best vapes I’ve had from a non-TC device.  I can stress enough how well the coil wicks and how much vapor it produces.  Not to mention the upgraded RBA deck has larger juice holes, making it wick much better and gives you the ability to go higher in wattage, thus producing more vapor.  Truly pleased with the performance of this starter kit!

  1. nice review, bought my subox mini and have been using it for about two months, working great, it is definitely the best kit I have come across. The new sub tank is awesome, it looks cool. I give this whole starter kit a big thumbs up.

  2. Just got mine and no vape any suggestions for batteries? There is no real set up but put together and charge correct?

    • I personally use AWT’s and MXJO’s. No setup involved really. Insert the battery into the device the correct way, click the fire button 5 times to turn the device on, attach your subtank mini (with of course coil installed and liquid inside the tank), start it off at low watts to get it primed good, then bump up the wattage. I use the 0.5 ohm coil that it comes with at about 45 watts.

  3. This is my first time with a mod box, so cannot compare with others. Tried e-cigs before, but they didn’t give enough vapour. I was a 40-a-day Old Holborn man before, so quite a heavy smoker. I have found this an excellent substitute and am now on my fourth smoke-free day! Probably be the best thing I could have bought. Complete 5 stars all the way.

  4. So this is strictly for ejuice, not me oil or other Cannabis concentrates?

  5. Ever since getting this kit I have not smoked one single cigarette. I bought it from a shop and it works great. I can have any kind of vape I want, from huge clouds to chill mouth to lung hits.
