What Is An RDTA

West Coast Vape Supply

Today, we are going to be concentrating on the RDTA, short for rebuildable dripping tank atomizer.  If you’re new to the vaping game, you may have no idea what that even means, and to be honest with you, there are probably plenty out there who have been vaping for a while who are just as clueless.  We are going to spend the next few minutes looking at what exactly defines an RDTA, why they exist, and we may even drop a couple of examples that are recommended by the office.

What Makes It An RDTA

What Is An RDTA: Inside the Avocado 24 RDTA

An RDA style build deck sitting on top of a tank style juice well.

Less than 2 yeas ago, the tank market was lackluster to say the least.  The offerings we had worked perfectly fine, but we demanded more just like we do today.  Bigger airflow for bigger clouds, bigger chambers to hold more liquid, and until the birth of the sub-ohm tanks, most of us were heading to Rebuildable Dripping Atomizers.  When the sub-ohm tanks came along, they took offered amazing airflow and some came with nice little build decks so that you could either use the stock coils or make your own.

While the concept of the RDTA is not new, it took the advancement of both of these other ideas to give us the amazing powerhouses we can purchase today.  For a piece of equipment to be classified as an RDTA, it must meet several criteria:

  • Rebuildable deck similar to a regular RDA
  • E-liquid capacity of a tank
  • Does not accept manufactured coil systems

So, if like myself, you enjoy the thrill of building whatever you want on a beautiful deck, but simultaneously don’t want the hassle of re-dripping every 2 seconds, the RDTA class may just be for you.  Check below for two of my personal favorites!

Sigelei Moonshot

What Is An RDTA: Sigelei MoonshotWhat should be noted first is that the Suprimo designed Moonshot from Sigelei looks insane and performs like a champion.  It stands just 42mm from top to tail, and the 22mm wide tank is made from durable 304 Stainless Steel and reinforced Pyrex.  The juice well itself will hold 2ml of e-liquid, while allowing you to take full advantage of the secrets inside the chimney.

When you take this little beast apart, you will find a 2-post deck, similar in design to the Velocity RDA. It comes with 2.5mm post holes to jam which ever size of wire you think you can get in there.  It can be used with a single or dual coil setup, so don’t be afraid to put it through its paces.
With massive dual airflow control in the base, it performs like the greatest sub-ohm tanks on the market, while the enormous juice flow channels will ensure that your hits don’t turn dry unless the tank is running on “E”.  Add into the mix the sloped wide bore drip tip — ladies and gentlemen, we have ourselves a winning combination.

Geek Vape Avocado 24

What Is An RDTA: Avocado 24 RDTA by Geek VapeIf you’re looking for the larger e-liquid capacity of the 5ml tank class, look no further than the Avocado by Geek Vape.  The 24 in the name comes from the outer diameter of the stainless steel body on this Genesis style setup.

This is an RDTA that really feels like a dripper.  The top cap pops off to reveal a Velocity style 2 post build deck, but Geek Vape had idea’s to make everyone’s life a little easier — a ceramic push in block can eliminate one side of the deck in an instant, closing out the juice deck and still giving access to the airflow for single coil users.  Seated in the deck is a covered top fill opening that makes adding more e-liquid so much easier.

The last thing to mention with this little guy is its overall size.  When compared to other tanks with a similar e-liquid capacity, it’s 44mm total height will have you wondering if it’s possible to fit 5ml into that tiny space.  When you take out all of the tanks guts and put them in an RDA on the top, you can do whatever you want.  This is most certainly an incredible addition to the RDTA family.
